Agatha Bednarczuk is the Brazilian Olympic Medalist that had a huge accomplishment on Friday October 22! Agatha won her thousandth (yes, thousandth) professional beach volleyball match during the country’s national tour.
This victory took place in Rio de Janeiro during the third event of the 2021 Brazilian Tour season. Agatha and her partner Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa defeated Vanilda ‘Val’ Leao and Verena Oliveira 2-0 with each set being 21-14, 21-15, and 21-15. This was their second match in the entire tournament.
Bednarczuk got started in playing beach a little bit late so the fact that she hit her 1,000th win speaks volumes about the persistence and determination she has to keep pushing through. It is nothing but a huge honor for her and Duda to win this match as they just announced that they are splitting ways at the end of the season. This win truly shows just how much Agatha loves the sport and also is a good way for her to look back and remember all of the amazing things this sport has brought her.
Agatha first competed internationally in 2005, as a Rio 2016 Olympic silver medalist, and has won over 452 FIVB World Tour matches so far. She has played in 138 international; events, winning medals in 49 of them, including 11 golds, with four different partners.
The World Volleyball article speaking about this huge accomplishment for Agatha shares her stating “ When I think about 1,000 wins, the first thing that comes to mind are the 15 partners that I had in my career and each member of each coaching staff I got to work with.” She also said, “I’m very thankful that I had each of them as part of my career and very aware that I wouldn’t have done this without them. In sport, you can’t succeed alone and I’ve been fortunate to have great people around me.”
It is so huge that Agatha speaks so highly about the importance of having her partners by her side throughout her sport journey. Hearing this from such a superstar athlete lays a very large impact on one of the many things that comes into play when wanting to make it to the top levels in your career; teams are very important as well as partners. There is not always a guarantee that you will win on your first match or even your first tour so being certain that you are surrounded by a great group of people can really help you propel forward into all of your winning goals.
