NCAA Creates Championships Channel For LG Smart TV Streaming

The end product on the field of play is usually a sight to behold. Collegiate athletes putting their best foot forward on display on the court, on the field, on the diamond, in the pool or on the track. We tune in for the end result, which is usually the result of many hours of practice to hone their craft.

But there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes with NCAA players, coaches and staff that sets the stage for each game. Through a partnership with LG Electronics USA, the NCAA will be able to share some of this footage that rarely makes it to the masses. All LG Smart TV’s will have a newly created NCAA Championships channel, which is meant to inspire student athletes and fans alike.

“The NCAA is an organization that catapults some of sports’ top talent to higher levels and LG will put a spotlight on the wide breadth of NCAA student-athletes who strive for excellence in many of the sports categories and divisions through the enhanced access to NCAA championships coverage,” said Peggy Ang, senior VP of marketing at LG Electronics USA. Turner Sports and CBS Sports will also be part of this collaboration, as they are the broadcast partners of some of the NCAA’s most popular championships.

The enhanced access will allow student athletes to show what makes them special both on and off the playing field.

“We thank LG for providing this unique platform where student-athletes can talk about their overall experiences and their competitive achievements,” said Dan Gavitt, NCAA senior VP of basketball. Via NCAA.org

The communicated transparency of this initiative will be fascinating to keep an eye on. There will likely be some level of editorial control exhibited by the networks and the NCAA with regards to the type of content that makes it on to the new channel, with regards to behind the scenes clips.
