USA Team Handball: Three Handball events you should pay attention to this month

It may seem like a sleepy time for Olympic sports, halfway through a year with no Olympic games. But, things could not be further from the truth in the growing sport of Handball. Beyond this spring, there are still dozens of elite competitions on the international level and a handful of defining tournaments on the schedule domestically.

To get new fans and athletes on track before the summer, here are a few of the important dates to help you keep an eye on USA Team Handball's next wave of athletes.

Before that: If you are a youth athlete interested in playing college sports, don't forget to check out the USA Handball: Collegiate Handball Tryout on GMTM.

2023 National Championships, hosted by Tiffin University

Dates: April 14-16, 2023

Location: Tiffin, Ohio

The 2023 USATH College National Championships is set to take place in Columbus, Ohio, at the Ohio Expo Center from May 5-7. The event is a key platform for collegiate players to showcase their talents and compete for the national title in both men's and women's divisions. National team coaches will be present to scout for new talent, providing players with the opportunity to earn a spot on the USA Handball National Team. College handball in America has been gaining popularity in recent years, with a growing number of colleges and universities fielding teams. USA Team Handball, the governing body for the sport in the United States, has been actively promoting the development of college handball programs through initiatives such as the College National Championships.

According to USA Team Handball, the College National Championships has been held annually since 2009 and has featured teams from all over the country. The tournament follows a round-robin format, with the top teams advancing to the knockout stage. The national championships have become a highly anticipated event for college athletes and coaches, as well as fans of the sport. You can read about the top college handball teams who will be defending their titles in this article from USA Team Handball.

In addition to providing a platform for college players to showcase their skills, the College National Championships also serve as an important feeder system for the USA Handball National Team. Many current members of the national team got their start playing in college, and the national championships offer a prime opportunity for national team coaches to scout for new talent.

U.S. Women's National Team Training

Dates: April 10-16

Location: Dallas, Texas

The United States Women's National Handball Team will be hosting a training camp from April 10 to 16 in Dallas, Texas. The camp is part of the team's preparation for the upcoming Pan American Games, which will be held in Santiago, Chile, in November.

According to USA Team Handball, the team's head coach, Robert Hedin, will use the camp to evaluate the players and work on improving their skills and teamwork. The training camp will also provide an opportunity for new players to try out for the national team.
