Ashton (#53) claims his first podium victory in the men’s freestyle aerials synchro competition at Finland's Ruka Ski Resort, a landmark achievement as the event prepares for its highly anticipated World Cup debut in January 2025 in Quebec.
Freestyle aerials is a thrilling skiing discipline where athletes perform acrobatic jumps off specially designed ramps, executing flips and twists at high altitudes before landing on a steep, groomed hill. Competitors are judged on the difficulty of their tricks, execution, and landing.
The "triple jump," the largest and most challenging ramp in aerial skiing, launches athletes to heights of up to 50 feet, allowing for intricate, multi-flip, multi-twist combinations. Here, Ashton completes a back-Lay-Tuck-Full for the first time on snow—a huge accomplishment in the sport. This feat showcases his exceptional skill, strength, and dedication, especially at such an advanced level of competition.
Thrilled to kick off training at the stunning Ruka Ski Resort, making the most of these early winter conditions! As the only US athlete here, I’m embracing the challenge and soaking up every moment (even if the sun only sticks around for 5 hours a day).
The cold is biting, but the vibes are incredible, and the progress feels worth every frosty breath. Let’s go!
Halfway thru the August Gold Camp Training with the US Ski Team. Here's my newest skill off the triple kicker... Back Lay-Full-Full. The triple kicker, which is ~13.5 feet tall, launches us 45-50 feet in the air.
