Hi! I’m Libby Ortmann, I’m 15 years old from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. I live with my Mom, Dad and older sister Ella. I have a bulldog named Audrey and I love to collect court shoes. My favourite subjects are math and science. My ultimate goal is to achieve a volleyball scholarship and become a physiotherapist so I can help develop young athletes to their fullest potential.
I started off my volleyball journey when I was just 12 years old. Before that, I was a long time competitive gymnast until my height outgrew the uneven bars and I was forced to quit.
Fortunately for me, I decided to try volleyball. In grade 7 at only 12 years of age, I was selected as one of two 7th grade girls that made the grade 8 rep team. We proudly took home the city championship that year. In the 8th grade I was named captain of the rep team and for the second year in a row we took home the city championship. This year as a grade 10 student, I played my second year of High School volleyball. After another successful school year of volleyball, I’m proud to say we took home the silver medal for zones in southern Alberta.
After falling in love with school volleyball, I joined the club in 2021. I showed up for the U13 tryouts and because of my height, strength and natural skills, my coaches immediately saw potential in me and I got offered a spot on the U14 A team.
We went on to play in the nationals in Richmond BC, Canada in 2022. I had a very successful first year of competitive volleyball and knew I was in this sport for the long haul. I also had an amazing experience travelling to the USA to participate in the Stars and Stripes festival in Mesa, Arizona in 2023. I was awarded MVP of that year.
Last year brought amazing opportunities as I was very proud to be selected for the Alberta Winter games to represent Zone 1, Sunny South! I enjoyed practicing with all my new teammates and experiencing a different coaching styles as I grow as a competitor. Am I very proud to say that we earned a gold metal at the AWG, it was a once in a lifetime experience!
I truly love the sport of volleyball and I dedicate myself to always improve whether it’s working on my cardio and athleticism or spending time at the gym lifting weights. Last summer, I branched out and joined a beach volleyball rec league. This was a whole different and challenging experience for me. Playing in the sand and having the disadvantage of only a single partner made me a better all around athlete.
Currently I am a left side hitter. I love being a left side because it has so many options for me as a player to attack the ball. I am a very strong passer and being in this position allows me to be able to control where the ball goes to set up the perfect play and eventual kill.
This year I have been selected for the U16 elite Lethbridge club, YQL Selects. I am excited to an apart of, and help build a new, positive and competitive team in Lethbridge. I put an enormous amount of effort into the game of volleyball and I would love nothing more than to make my parents and the coaches who believed in me, proud. I am always up for a strict new challenge and I love to push myself past my limits. I am dedicated and hard working and to be apart of this team would create memories that would last a lifetime. I love meeting new teammates and making lifelong friends and for this reason I would love nothing more than to be apart of this team!
