Athlete Spotlight: Kenedee Rowen
GMTM gives athletes around the world an opportunity to highlight their achievements, upload media and share their stats with GMTM community members and beyond.
This week we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Kenedee Rowen, a recent graduate of Huron High School in South Dakota.
Exploring Her Options
Kenedee has been athletic her whole life, largely thanks to her mother, who encouraged her to try every sport starting at a young age. Rodeo was the first sport Kenedee tried, which helped her gain strength and stamina.
She’s also been a cheerleader her entire life, and eventually joined a gymnastics team at the club level. Kenedee was introduced to CrossFit style workouts, about four years ago, when her gymnastics coach introduced her to a powerlifting coach at the Mitchell Powerlifting Club.
Pursuing Powerlifting
Kenedee quickly developed a love for the sport of powerlifting. Her passion for lifting reignited her athletic spirit, which fueled her to begin competing in powerlifting. Her talent was immediately recognized when Kenedee was awarded 2nd place at her first meet in 2021. Later that year she broke four South Dakota powerlifting records, was awarded best female overall powerlifter and took first place at the state level.
At her first national meet in 2022, she continued to impress and placed fifth. Kenedee represented Team USA at the North American Powerlifting Regional Championships this past August and took home three silver medals in their sub-junior class, for competitors aged 14 to 18.
Beyond the Podium
Kenedee can accurately label herself a decorated powerlifter- she holds over a dozen records after just two seasons competing at the state level in South Dakota. Kenedee’s dedication and commitment to continue improving, in the sport of powerlifting, are apparent. She currently attends Midland University, an elite powerlifting university in Nebraska, and will continue to compete at the collegiate level. Midland University won the national title in raw and equipped lifting for the last three years.
Kenedee is excited to contribute her athletic skill to their team this year. Kenedee strives to inspire other female athletes to tap into their inner strength and develop a passion for lifting.
