Are there Different Positions In College Beach Volleyball?

Beach volleyball is an enjoyable sport that offers amazing experiences for newbies and refreshing times for professionals.

Visiting the beach casually or on a special occasion could be fun. Now imagine how the experience will look like when it's mixed with a beautiful sporting activity under the sun.

Beach Volleyball Is More Forgiving And More Demanding

Beach volleyball is not complex to play and can go a long way to serve as a memorable recreational activity (if you do not intend to go pro). The rules are easily understood once you learn the basics of what the sport is all about.

It is important to note that beach volleyball is different from indoor volleyball. The major difference between the two is the size of the court floor. The beach volleyball court is 16 meters long by 8 meters wide,  which is smaller than a standard indoor volleyball court.

This is because the movement on the beach will be slower than on the indoor volleyball court. Since it can be difficult to move on the sand, it will also be extremely tiring to run repeatedly in a wide area on the beach.

What Are the Different Positions In Beach Volleyball?

This outdoor sport is played between two teams consisting of two players each. An inflated ball is hit back and forth by players of both teams over a net to make the ball land on the opposition's side.

Basically, there are no specified positions for the players of the sport, which means that the two players in a team must be very good in every position as they tend to exhibit fluidity and flexibility in every area of the court. They will have to switch positions at intervals.

This is unlike indoor volleyball which has teams comprising six players playing on the court at a given time. From a bench lineup in indoor volleyball, teams are also given the liberty to make substitutions.

Players need to constantly practice the various techniques needed to utilize their chances of winning games.

What Are Each Positions' Responsibilities?

Not only will two players represent a team at the start of a match, but these players will also be the only ones permitted to play a particular game from start to finish, which means there are no substitutes for any of the two teams for the duration of the match.

The method of rally scoring is used in a professional beach volleyball game and played to the best out of three sets.

Remember that in beach volleyball, players do not have set positions. This means players can have themselves positioned on any part of their team's side of the court and will not be penalized for it, unlike in indoor volleyball.

It is a must for players to stay on their side of the court and also start the game while inside the boundaries of the court whenever the game starts.

Players are permitted to move underneath the highly raised net to the opponent's side of the court to get a ball during play. The only exception to this freedom is that any crossing that is made underneath the net that disrupts the opposition's play will be regarded as a foul.
